Marvel is reportedly looking at Louis D’Esposito to direct Ant-Man
With the recent and unexpected departure of Edgar Wright from the production of Ant-Man, many began to wonder if Marvel was going to postpone the filming and even push back the release date of the film. Now it seems that Marvel may have already found its replacement director.
Word comes from Elmayimbe from latino-review via his twitter account:
BREAKING: I’m hearing @Marvel has found a new ANT-MAN director (damn, that was quick). They better drop that news before I do. Hurry!

From what I’m told @marvel had two choices. And yes folks I’m live tweeting a scoop hunt.

Folks, I simply don’t know YET BUT given the circumstances of the ANT-MAN situation & compressed timeframe, if I was to guess…
— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) May 30, 2014
…I would guess Louis D Esposito batting in the clean up position. Again a guess. Waiting for calls to be returned.

They need a cleanup hitter who knows the culture there. The movie is completely storyboarded. Again, very compressed timeframe to make date.

hence why i don’t think it’s a newbie.

Again the movie is completely pre-viz’ed & story boarded. All they need is a cleanup hitter to execute.

If they went to in house writer to polish script at very last minute instead of outside writer, they might do same for director duties.

An outside director would have to be extra thirsty to take that gig. Reasons? Ride Marvel wave. Get stench of last movie that bombed off.

While its not direct confirmation that Louis D’Esposito has taken the gig, it does make sense. With D’Esposito being a key player in the MCU and its production over the years, he has taken a more hands on role recently with his directing of the more recent Marvel One-Shot films.
Only time will tell at this point if he is taking on the directorial role for Ant-Man, but at this point Marvel needs to fill the spot fast if they want to get the film made on time.
Ant-Man is currently set for July 17th 2015 release date.
