Fox To Air New “GOTHAM” Television Series

While we were all in our living rooms, comfortably watching the pilot episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., things were stirring at FOX. They happened to score the rights to the upcoming drama Gotham, which will showcase the city of Gotham before (spoiler warning) Bruce Wayne becomes Batman.

The show is said to follow the rising of Jim Gordon through the ranks of the GCPD to the roll of Commissioner. We also may be seeing the origin of some of Batman’s villains, although it is unlikely we’ll be seeing the Caped Crusader himself.

The series will be written by Bruno Heller, the mind behind The Mentalist (CBS) and Rome (HBO). So far, no casting has been announced, although you can be sure to expect a much younger Commissioner Gordon than the one portrayed by Gary Oldman in Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

I, for one, am looking forward to the enormous potential of a Gotham show. Since it takes place in a corrupt Gotham before Batman cleans it up, we’ll get to see mobsters and murders, occult practitioners, and possibly even the twisted story behind Arkham Asylum itself.

As of yet, a launch date has not been set, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as one is announced.
