Jurassic World Rebirth Takes us to the Most Dangerous Island Yet
The trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth has arrived giving us a taste of where the dinosaur franchise goes next.
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
The trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth blends adventure with high stakes, making it the most action-oriented movie in the franchise so far by the looks of it. The setting of the film will be on an island that was the research facility for the original Jurassic Park. Which consequently means we’ll not only see some old favorites among the dinosaurs there but some new ones too. The trailer has already given us glimpses of the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III and the T-Rexes. T-Rexes have become a staple of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films. Furthermore, the trailer features a deadly troll like creature, unlike anything seen in the franchise before, looking closer to something out of a kaiju movie.
The films stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, a covert operations expert hired to lead an expedition and protect paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, played by Jonathan Bailey. They set out to retrieve Dino DNA in the hope that it can be used to make future medical breakthroughs.
Gareth Edwards, who is no stranger to giant lizard and monster film making, directed the film. In 2014 he directed Godzilla and he made his feature directorial debut film with Monsters in 2010. David Koepp returned to write the film. Koepp was screenwriter on Jurassic Park in 1993 and The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997. Steven Spielberg, who serves as executive producer on Jurassic World Rebirth asked Koepp back to write the film. Jurassic World Rebirth will incorporate scenes from the original Jurassic Park books that were not part of the previous movies according to reports.
The film looks set to be the start of a new trilogy of Jurassic World films. Previous films in the franchise have earned a combined total of 6 billion at the worldwide box office.
Jurassic World Rebirth roars into theaters this July 2nd.
