Steven Yeun exits Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’

Steven Yeun has left the production of Marvel’s Thunderbolts after multiple delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yeun will not be taking part in the Jack Schreier directed film, which is to be Marvel’s first antihero-focused entry into the long running franchise. Marvel or Yeun himself has made no statement, but the likely reasons for his departure are the changes in the schedule of the movie’s production caused by last year’s strikes.

While his casting in the film was never officially confirmed, it had been heavily rumored that he would play the part of Sentry, a formidable superhero within the Marvel Universe realm akin to Superman.

Yeun can currently be heard in Amazon’s Invincible, where he voices Mark Grayson, the young superhero Invincible, after which the series is named. He is best known for his roles in AMC’s The Walking Dead and Netflix’s award-winning Beef and can next be seen in Bong Joon Ho‘s Mickey 17, due to release in theaters on March 29th.

Thunderbolts had been initially scheduled for a July 2024 release date, but due to the writer’s and actors’ strikes, it was pushed back to July 2025. The film’s cast includes Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Karmen, Ayo Ediberi and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
