Zack Snyder’s anticipated new Netflix release, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, is set to hit the streaming service on December 21. His original space sci-fi flick is planned to have at least one sequel released in 2024, with hopes of a third after that. But the early critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes the film is getting are less than epic.
As of the initial reviews on December 15, the critic scores are sitting at a disheartening 26% from 34 critic reviews. Of course, that is a small number of reviews in the grand scheme of things, and no audience score is available yet. Still, it doesn’t seem to bode well for the director with an already somewhat controversial film history, especially after Netflix has invested so much into this new franchise.
Yet, the potentially Oscar-nominated film for Visual Effects could turn into a success if enough people tune in to watch the whole thing. It’s too early to tell right now, but here at The Cultured Nerd, we will be watching it on day one and giving you our thoughts and a full review soon after.
As with many of Zack Snyder’s projects, a director’s cut is on the horizon, and maybe that longer version of the film will be enough to win critics and fans over, if not the original cut! Unfortunately, that has been the track record with almost all of Snyder’s films.
