Zack Snyder Says Lex Luthor Would Have Saved Humanity with a Nuke in Justice League 3
On a podcast hosted by DC_Cinematic Subreddit earlier this year, director Zack Snyder revealed new details of how his proposed multi-picture DCEU Justice League storyline would have ended. In response to a fan question about which is his favorite DC villain, in his now-famous stream of consciousness style, Snyder initially responded Lex Luthor.
Though describing him as clearly insane, he said Luthor is a type of “humanitarian” in that he sees the metahumans as a threat and wants to protect humanity from them. Snyder went on to say it was discussed at one point to have Lex be the one who turns the tide of the final battle with Darkseid by bringing a briefcase containing a nuclear weapon aboard Darkseid’s spaceship.
“We talked about… that the he in the final battle, he’s the one that brings the nuke into Darkseid’s spaceship and detonates it himself. It’s kind of like he wasn’t down with the concept of completely destroying mankind. He didn’t realize that was the bet. So that kind of thing is something he would be capable of. He could go all the way.”
The character would surprisingly sacrifice himself detonating it because as Snyder said he felt Lex would be the one character capable of “going all the way.”
Snyder also included Darkseid as a favorite, calling him the “King Daddy” of villains. He continued that if the project ever came to fruition “…the Furies and…all that Kirby madness let loose would be fun,” as in a battle between the Furies and the Amazons. James Kirby of course was the legendary creator behind the entire Apokolips/New Genesis universe and all its denizens.
