New release dates for “The Last of Us Part II” and “Ghost of Tsushima” announced

Prepare to stay in even more than you thought you were going to anyway.

PlayStation, Sucker Punch Productions and Naughty Dog have confirmed the new release dates for Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II.

The Last of Us Part II

Previously, The Last of Part II had been delayed from its Feb 21st 2020 release date to May 29th 2020, so Naughty Dog could polish the game and “reduce stress” on the staff working hard to make sure the sequel fit expectations. Then, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the game release had been halted indefinitely, until yesterday, when PlayStation and Naughty Dog confirmed the new release date of June 19th 2020.

Ghost of Tsushima previously had a release date of June 26th 2020, and until yesterday had not been delayed previously, unlike The Last of Us Part II. There had been speculation that the game would be delayed until August due to the aforementioned COVID-19 pandemic, however, the newly confirmed release date is now July 17th 2020.

PlayStation’s official press release:

As our teams at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Worldwide Studios approach development milestones and confront a world changed by COVID-19, we find ourselves having to adapt to today’s ever-changing environment. Amidst some disruptions to our working styles, we wanted to provide an update to PlayStation gamers who are eager to learn when our next exclusive titles will arrive to PlayStation 4.

As we begin to see an ease in the global distribution environment, I am pleased to confirm that The Last of Us Part II will arrive on June 19th. And Ghost of Tsushima will follow on July 17th.

I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.

And finally, I want to thank the PlayStation Community for their continuous support and patience.
