Days after an image of Jared Leto as the title character hit the internet, Sony Pictures Entertainment has dropped the first teaser trailer for Morbius.
Set to a new rendition of Beethoven’s Fur Elise, the trailer features Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, a biologist in search of a cure to a fatal blood disease which he carries. Through self-treatment and experimentation, the doctor transforms himself into a “Living Vampire,” curing his disease but cursing him with sensitivity to light and a lust for blood.
Morbius is one of many Spider-man spinoff projects Sony is said to have in development as the studio attempts to create a sort of parallel universe to the one established by Disney’s Marvel Studios.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa and staring Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson, Morbius hits theatres July 31, 2020.
