The upcoming Highlander reboot just got a lot more exciting with Dave Bautista being offered the part of The Kurgan. Latino Review reports that Bautista will take on the mantle of the wickedly twisted villain portrayed by Clancy Brown in the original 1986 film. Honestly, could they have made a more inspired casting choice than Bautista to play a hulking head hunter from the dawn of time?
Aside from first time director Cedric Nicolas Troyan, Bautista is the only confirmed name for the reboot. While it has been rumored that Ramirez (Sean Connery’s mentor role in the original) may be played by Tom Cruise, nothing is set in stone just yet. Most notably missing from the casting thus far is The Highlander Connor MacLeod himself. However, Troyan does have something to say about that:
“We have to find that younger emerging guy, and surround him with a strong Kurgan, and an actor who shines as Ramirez the way Connery did in that film film.”

Guardians of the Galaxy won’t have to wait until Highlander‘s release to see more of Bautista on the big screen. He’ll also be playing the assassin Mr Hinx in this year’s Bond flick, Spectre on November 26th.
