Guillermo del Toro Announces Pacific Rim 2, TV Series, and Comic Book!

After much speculation, Guillermo del Toro has officially dropped amazing news today for fans of 2013’s Pacific Rim. In a short video announcement, the film’s writer/director announced that Pacific Rim 2 will be released on April 7th, 2017.

If that’s not enough to get you salivating at the idea of more epic Kaiju on Jaeger fights, del Toro also promises that “We’re going to develop a new animated series for Pacific Rim and continue the comic book series that we started with [Pacific Rim: Tales from] Year Zero.”

The video name drops Zak Penn (X Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk) as a writer for the sequel. Del Toro also promises the return of original screenwriter Travis Beacham, who will also help to further develop what is quickly becoming a franchise of monstrous proportions.

As to what we can expect, Buzzfeed has a statement straight from the man himself:

“The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”
