X-Men Director Hints at Re-Casting Main Mutants

In possibly the best news I’ve heard all day, X-Men:Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer teased the idea of recasting Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey for the upcoming project X-Men: Apocalypse.

In an interview with ScifiNow, Bryan Singer gives us some insight as to where Days of Future Past falls in the X-Men timeline:

My next goal is how did the X-Men come together? That story hasn’t been told yet, so [Days of Future Past] is the ‘inbetweequel.’ It’s in between the birth of that relationship with Charles and Erik and the formation of the X-Men.

The interviewer then asked if X-Men: Apocalypse will be “in the right time zone to revisit and recast iconic original characters Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm.”

“Yeah,” Singer confirms when that question was put to him, “exactly.”

Of course, Singer didn’t exactly come right out and say that he’ll be recasting the trio with younger actors, but it seemed to be implied. Which at the very least is good news to me because, while I liked James Marsden as Cyclops and Halle Berry as Storm, I very strongly disliked Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey.

It’s always nice to see a good character get a second chance with a different actor (I’m looking at you, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man).

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release May 27, 2016.
