Writer states X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will feature both casts again

**WARNING – MAJOR SPOILERS FOR X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST AHEAD**

At the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, fans were happy to see the “creation” of a new timeline where just about every X-Men film we had seen in the past had been retconned and Jean, Scott, and all the other previously killed off Mutants where once again among the ranks of the living.

Since that moment, fans have been wondering if this was just a well placed send off or if fans will see these characters again in the future.

Recently Simon Kinberg sat down with The Daily Beast, who was able to get the writer to explain some key ideas for the upcoming film, X-Men Apocalypse.

“It will focus primarily on the First Class cast, but it will certainly have some of the original cast involved, too.”

When asked if Director Bryan Singer is returning to the director’s chair, Kinberg replied:

“That is the plan.”

As for the recent rumors of Channing Tatum being cast as Gambit, the writer had this to say about the casting:

“Gambit is still in-motion and being figured out. Channing made it known that it was a character that he loved and would love to play, and all the people who work on the X-Men movies are huge fans of his, so the notion of him playing it is exciting. I’m more fascinated by anti-heroes, and Gambit is one of those. I don’t know why he wasn’t explored in the original X-Men movies. Maybe the reason why was because they wanted to focus on Rogue/Bobby or the platonic Rogue/Wolverine relationship, and maybe there were too many similarities between Wolverine and Gambit, so in order to make it a Wolverine-centric franchise they had to cut him loose.”

X-Men Apocalypse is currently set for a May 27, 2016 release date.
