Not so long ago, a tv advertisement for X-Men:Days of Future Past introduced a young girl, who many believed to be the Scarlet Witch. Empire Magazine caught up with director Bryan Singer, who revealed that the ‘princess’ in the tv spot, is in fact someone else:
Is that the Scarlet Witch? No, that’s his little sister. I even had a line which I cut, where Quicksilver’s mother says to the little girl, ‘Go up and bug your sister,’ and the little girl says, ‘She bugs me!’ You never see the older sister, but it was to imply that there is an older sister for comic book fans. I ended up cutting it.
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch’s little sister in the comics is Lorna Dane, which means that this little girl is actually young Polaris. Whether or not we’ll see this ‘princess’ grow up to be the green-haired magnetic heroine in future movies remains to be seen, much like Scarlet Witch’s future in the X-Men franchise. The only character of the three that Singer confirms we’re likely to see in the already-announced sequel X-Men: Apocalypse is Quicksilver:
Even though our Quicksilver is not a main character like in The Avengers, it’s a character there’s a lot of thought and concern about and it’s a character I’d like to explore further in the sequel.
This doesn’t affect the Scarlet Witch in other movies, like Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. We just may have to wait a bit to see her in an actual X-Men movie.
