‘The Last Of Us’ PS3 Game Gets its Own Movie

Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last Of Us’ was a huge commercial success when it was released, winning various awards and numerous favorable reviews among players. It was praised for its graphics and artwork, game design, story, and sound design. The gameplay was smooth and non-invasive; it made it feel like you were playing through a movie.

Good news for the game’s fans then, since today it was announced that ‘The Last Of Us’ will be an actual movie, to be released by Sony subsidiary Screen Gems and produced by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures company. In a possible attempt to keep as close to the source material as possible, the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann will pen the script.

Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper had this to say:

Screen Gems’ Brian Dukes and Eric Ling brought this game to my attention insisting we go after it, and when I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay. I am thrilled that SCEA’s Riley Russell was able to get me in front of Neil and Evan Wells to plead my case. Sam and his team at Ghost House round out the perfect team to help realize Neil’s vision.

Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra will round out the creative team for the movie. If all goes well, we could end up with a really good adaption on our hands. No word yet on an estimated release date for the post-apocalyptic picture, but hopefully we’ll see one soon.
