[Weekly Album Suggestion] Big Giant Circles-“The Glory Days”
This is the start of my weekly musical suggestion, an article where I tirelessly scour the depths of the internet to find you an artist from the many genres of music this big sphere of rock we call Earth has to offer. My taste cast a wide net and I want to find something that maybe some people have never even though of to listen to.
Big Giant Circles is the chiptune/electronic project of Jimmy Hinson. Now in the video game world this man has probably influenced you in more ways than you think. He has contributed to the soundtracks of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Mass Effect 2 alongside Jack Wall, where the duo were nominated for a BAFTA award. He has worked on numerous video game soundtracks and this clearly comes across in his work. Big Giant Circles is his solo passion project where he essentially takes every nostalgic sound from our childhood and gives you a soundtrack fit for your own adventure. His album The Glory Days is aptly name and from the first second of the opening song throws you right back into your adolescence. You will think you are right back is front of your SNES trying to beat Mega Man X.
Now this is not just about nostalgia, I am also looking out for you on the value front. On bandcamp right now, you can pick up this entire album for $11. Now I know that is not the cheapest album out there but you are getting 32 tracks for that price. He has even done something very cool and the last 11 tracks are specifically mastered as songs that you can set on loop and they repeat perfectly in line front to back. So if you have a favorite song or just need some background music while playing a favorite game then this is the album for you.
