Gal Gadot had been officially cast as Wonder Woman in Batman/Superman

After weeks of speculation on the role, it has been officially revealed that Actress Gal Gadot (most notably known from the Fast & Furious franchise) will be playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman/Superman film.

Variety has broken the news, and with it Director Zack Snyder stated the following:

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

The role had been under heavy speculation for months, and most notably actress Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif from the Thor Franchise) was under the most specualtion for the role until it was revealed that her contracts with Marvel would seemingly keep her from that role, shortly after speculation began with Alexander Variety reported that Gal Gadot, Elodie Yung, and Olga Kurylenko had all done screen testing for the part that was previously believed (now confirmed) to be Wonder Woman.

Batman/Superman is currently slated for a July 17, 2015 release.
