Guillermo del Toro Reveals WB Has Plans For “The Entire DC Universe”
With his heavy following, his blockbuster films, and his overall love of the characters it comes as no surprise that Guillermo del Toro is in the loop in conversations about DC Comics films with WB.
In a recent interview Cinefilos.it, director Guillermo del Toro revealed that what we have seen thus far (and the recent TV announcements) is just the beginning some a brave new world of DC Comics films and TV shows.
“We’re still on [Justice League Dark], writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. We’re still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan.”
Yes you read that correctly, DC is planning on a HUGE roll out of their characters. But what the most intriguing part of all of that is that they’re fitting it all into what he calls their “plan.”
It comes with no surprise that DC/WB is looking at bringing their characters into the light thanks to the recent success Marvel has seen, but DC has one thing that Marvel doesn’t… All of their characters under one roof. With that huge advantage DC could easily create a vast interconnected Live-Action Universe that spans across both TV and film, allowing their characters to exist on both, much like what Marvel is currently trying to do with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and their recent Netflix deal. Guillermo even recently hinted at the Constantine in his film being the same one as the TV series.
So when will we see this plan come into effect? Not sure, but rumors are flying that it could be as early as the new year. Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, DC is planning on giving Marvel a run for their money.
