Kingdom Hearts 3 creator, Tetsuya Nomura, talks combat and graphical improvements

Earlier today, PlayStation Japan released a new installment of their “Conversations with Creators” video series, todays interview with series creator Tetsuya Nomura.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the pinnacle of the series’ action so far thanks to the power of the PlayStation 4.

The game is the final chapter in the Dark Seeker Saga, the story of Sora and his group of friends.

As previously indicated, Kingdom Hearts 3 will wrap up the storyline presented throughout the franchise’s several titles over the past decade, but now suggesting that more stories set in the Kingdom Hearts universe could be coming down the line.

Nomura went on to explain that in order to bring the series to the “height” of action for this latest installment, he wanted to take advantage of the PS4’s wide field of view and graphics capabilities. Because of this, Sora’s movements have all been given a significant upgrade. Actions such as jumping, climbing, flying and even dodge-rolling have all been fine-tuned and are now more fluid than ever before.

Nomura goes on to indicate that even some environments will crumble around players as they move through them, even dealing damage to themselves and opponents.

Throughout the interview, Nomura explained combat’s heightened fluidity and “sharper” companion AI (Donald and Goofy) are possible with the power of the PS4.

“We wanted a photorealistic representation of each Disney world, as well as match the tone of each world,”

“I think [we’ve been able to] make full use of a variety of actions in a wide space, and allow [Sora] to fight a larger amount of enemies, It’s made possible by the power of the PS4.”

While Nomura didn’t share details on what specific functions that the DualShock 4 controller can bring to Kingdom Hearts 3, he did note briefly that the Final Fantasy 15 team is “farther into development” than the KH3 team, suggesting that the any further features with the DualShock 4 or even as PSVita Remote Play(as he suggested to famitsu is “being looked into”) could be utilized later in the games development.
