New Game Revealed by the Creator of Megaman
Keiji Inafune, the co-designer of the original Megaman, announced a new project at PAX this weeked: Mighty No. 9. Hailed as the spiritual successor to Megaman, this 2D sidescroller bears a striking resemblance to the blue android hero himself. The premise of the game also seems similar; Mighty No. 9 has to fight his way through between 6-8 other robots, swiping gadgets and weapons from each one to advance the game.
Inafune had this to say about it:
To say that Mighty No. 9 looks like Mega Man is to say that my work looks like my work. But we have been careful. The base gameplay is not the same as Mega Man. The naming, the character, all that is not the same. The details are very different. Personally, I’ve gone out of my way to make sure that this is something original.
The game has met its goal on Kickstarter, and is planned to be released on Steam as a digital download available for all campaign backers.
So far, there has been no word on what kind of action Capcom, the company that currently owns the Megaman character, will take towards Mighty No. 9.
