David Goyer Says Batman/Superman Is “Further Along Than People Realize”

David Goyer, one of the screenwriters behind The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, its sequel Batman/Superman, recently had an interview with The AP in regards to the up and coming Batman and Superman film, but one of the things he said seems to have caught the internet off guard:

“One of the things that has been fun for us is we’re a bit further along than I think people realize,”

So what does that mean exactly? Obviously this reveal seems to imply that DC/WB has had this in the works far before the Affleck reveal, and most likely prior to the whole “Comic Con reveal” earlier in the year. Ben Affleck himself even revealed that when we got the call, they had the entire pitch ready for him, with concept art and all. So with all that in mind, perhaps DC and Warner Bros. have had a this film in mind since the advent of Man Of Steel’s filming, if you’re one to believe those rumors, and the only thing from keeping this film from getting the greenlight was WB waiting on the box office results for Man Of Steel.

Aside from all that, Goyer also commented on fan reaction, their input, and how that affects the creation of the upcoming film:

“From a fan point of view, we’re conscious of that when you’re working on these things, but you can’t let yourself be paralyzed by that, at the end of the day you still have to create something. And if you try to think, ‘Well, what would the fans like, what would the audience like?’ then you stop being creative and it’s sort of like where does it end? You have to write the story that you want to write and hope that people want to see it.”

And last but not least, David Goyer even comments on who he thinks would win in a fight between these two icons:

“Most comic book purists would say Batman because he is the ultimate strategist, even though it makes no sense whatsoever — if Superman just flicked his finger Batman would be done for. You’ll have to watch the film in a year and a half or whatnot to see what happens.”

With DC hitting into High Gear with the recent reveal of the upcoming shows Gotham and Constantine, along with the already made future plans for Arrow and The Flash, it seems DC may have just hit its Cinematic Renaissance.
