Sony finally comments on LittleBigPlanet Vita’s early release, and it doesn’t sound like they approve

Earlier this week, many ans got a surprise announcement from their local retailers stating that their copies of LittleBigPlanet Vita was releasing early and they could pick it up and start playing. Since its surprise announcement, people have wondered what Sony’s word would be on this entire situation, now finally Sony has responded:

Released this morning Via Playstation.blog:

Hi everyone – production on LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita was completed earlier than expected, and due to the excitement from our retail partners, some have decided to put it on shelves as soon as the product was received. You’ll still be able to fully enjoy all the offline features of the game, but the servers will not go live until September 18th. We apologize for any confusion this may cause and will keep you posted on any further updates.

After this initial post, fans clamored for more clarification in the comments section in which it was responded with:

Yes, the digital release is still scheduled for 9/25.

and:

We’re hoping to get all of the pre-order items up online as soon as possible, could be as early as 9/18.

These statements are key, because it directly reflects on Sony’s Vita policy that they announced prior to its launch, of a “Same day digital release”.

If you take Sony at face value, it looks like Gamestop jumped the gun. The line ” due to the excitement from our retail partners, some have decided to put it on shelves as soon as the product was received “ gives it away completely, especially when you look at it along with the fact that their online servers aren’t even up yet, and the digital release isn’t going to happen until 9/25.

While Sony isn’t directly saying that Gamestop or any other retailer is to blame, they are subtly saying they didn’t approve of it. Either way, the game is out for some, and gamers are playing. We just have to wait for all the content and the rest of the world to catch up.
