Recently at the UBS Best Of Americas 2012 Conference, Hasbro President Brian Goldner discussed plans for the upcoming fourth installment in the widely successful Transformers franchise.
But with it, they clarified that it was successful from a box office standpoint primarily, but there is one area that Transformers: Dark Of The Moon apparently disappointed in was what Hasbro banked on the most, its toy sales.
As it turns out because the third movie used basically the same cast of Autobots and Decepticons as the previous movie did with the exception or 2 or 3 minor (and forgettable) characters being added, toy sales dropped significantly.
Basically with Hasbro it was with No new Transformers in the movie, no new Transformers toys to sell. Because of this reason, Goldner revealed:
“Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.”.
Now while it is not clear if any of the previous characters will reprise any roles (so possibly a Transformers Movie without Optimus Prime) or if he meant completely new Autobots/Decepticons or just a movie filled with some we havent seen yet like Ultra Magnus or Hot Rod, speculation is now running rampant with the idea that Transformers 4 will be pretty much a complete reboot because it seems to have very little, if any connecting ties to the last films.
