RUMOR: ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ is getting pushed to March 2013
Deadline is posting the news that Paramount has decided to push back G.I.JOE: Retaliation to March 29th 2013 instead of its initial release date (and the one they’ve been promoting for several months now) of June 29th, so they can add 3D…
According to a “studio exec”;
“We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally,”
“Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.”
Deadline did point out that Paramount has had luck with this in the past, noting that a few years ago its decision to move Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island eventually gave the director his biggest box office hit ever, which many can credit the hype and sheer anticipation of the movie by many sites who followed its production. They also point out that overseas 3D is a huge thing, and from what I can tell given that The Avengers is doing amazing right now overseas, ( and a lot of its success is from the 3D version of the movie) they want to make an impact over there as well.
But Personally I think it may have to do with all the summers big movies. Right now G.I. Joe: Retaliation was slated to land in between The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises. Given the hype of those movies, I think that if this rumor is true, that the movie is indeed pushed back almost a year, it couldn’t hurt to not be stuck in between those movies.
