Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios is after Mads Mikkelsen to play the villain in the upcoming sequel to THOR, which is set to take place after the events of The Avengers.
Audiences will recognize him from his roles in King Arther, Valhalla Rising, Clash of the Titans, and as the villain ‘Le Chiffre‘ in Casino Royale, it is currently unknown what character he is being sought out to play.
While Marvel Studios is still currently declining to comment anywhere on the potential casting, its worth noting that Tom Hiddleston will still have a big role as the antagonistic Loki, and rumors say this movie might even help redeem Loki from his actions in Thor and The Avengers.
So far it has been confirmed that most of the cast from the original is indeed returning, but Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones“) is now helming.
Marvel has slated “Thor 2” for Nov. 15, 2013, with production and its filming to be expected to start sometime this summer.
