Futurama’s original voices return

When I first heard Futurama was coming back to television I was ecstatic.  I was 12 when Futurama first aired on the Fox network, I knew it was made by same people who made The Simpsons, but to me it was different. I grew up not being a fan of The Simpsons, but rather shows like Star Trek, Star Wars, and just about everything based off of comic books, and with that type of taste in media, The Simpsons didn’t cut it.

Then I saw Futurama and everything clicked.

I loved watching it all the way through middle school, and when it was canceled I watched it on Adult Swim throughout high school. I had always hoped for the show to be brought back and with the 4 original movies I had some momentary comfort.

But it wasn’t until earlier this year the rumors were settled and my wish was granted upon the announcement of Futurama’s official revival.

But out of all the excitement, a black cloud swiftly came in and potentially ruined it all.

On July 17, 2009, it was announced that 20th Century Fox Television was posting a casting notice to replace the entire cast of Futurama because the original cast would not meet their salary demands.

Fans, including myself, were instantly distraught upon hearing this news. Futurama was the voices. It was like having Batman without a utility belt, Spider-man without the web shooting, or Darth Vader without the really weird asthma voice. The actors made the show, and without them, I dreaded to think of what this show would’ve been.

A facebook group and a fan outcry at comic-con later, Fox changes their minds.

A message from Maurice LaMarche (an actor who did many of the back up voices on the show) was sent to members of the “Save the Voices of Futurama” group on Facebook. In this message, he announced that the original cast would be returning for Futuramas new season.

With rumors flying about undisclowed budget cuts and actor agreements, Fans can now rest easy knowing that Futurama is coming back the way it was meant to.
