{"id":41127,"date":"2021-12-03T21:27:06","date_gmt":"2021-12-04T05:27:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=41127"},"modified":"2021-12-03T21:27:11","modified_gmt":"2021-12-04T05:27:11","slug":"playstation-reportedly-working-on-new-subscription-service-to-compete-with-xboxs-game-pass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=41127","title":{"rendered":"PlayStation reportedly working on new subscription service to compete with Xbox\u2019s Game Pass"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-12-03\/playstation-plans-new-service-to-take-on-xbox-game-pass\">Bloomberg<\/a> has reported that <strong>Sony<\/strong> is working on a new service code named \u201cSpartacus\u201d for <strong>PS4<\/strong> and <strong>PS5<\/strong> where players can pay a monthly fee for access to a library of modern and classic games, similar to the model that <strong>Xbox<\/strong> is adopting with their <strong>Game Pass<\/strong> service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As per the documents on the project, it appears there\u2019d be three tiers for the upcoming service. The first includes the same benefits as <strong>PlayStation Plus<\/strong>, which is required for online gaming and comes with some free games each month. The second tier offers access to gaming catalog like <em>Game Pass<\/em>, and the third tier will include demos, game streaming, and access to a larger library that includes <strong>PS1<\/strong>, <strong>PS2<\/strong>, <strong>PS3<\/strong> and even <strong>PSP<\/strong> games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new service is expected to launch in spring 2022 and will merge <em>Sony\u2019s<\/em> two existing subscription services <em>PlayStation Plus<\/em> and <strong>PlayStation Now<\/strong> &#8211; a cloud service that lets users stream games directly to their consoles.
