The news comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/guardians-of-the-galaxy-holiday-special-will-introduce-a-new-mcu-character-james-gunn-says\/1100-6496763\/\">Gamespot<\/a>. Read the tweet below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In my incredibly subjective &amp; admittedly often odd opinion, we&#39;ll be introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GotGHolidaySpecial?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GotGHolidaySpecial<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CipO64ZpoC\">https:\/\/t.co\/CipO64ZpoC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qnVkVr7w10\">pic.twitter.com\/qnVkVr7w10<\/a><\/p>&mdash; James Gunn (@JamesGunn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamesGunn\/status\/1444366802411270159?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 2, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tweet itself was a response to a question asking whether or not a new character would be added to the special. James Gunn did preface the answer by clearly stating that this was his &#8220;incredibly subjective &amp; admittedly often odd opinion.&#8221; The director is known for utilizing some of <strong>Marvel&#8217;s<\/strong> more eccentric characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many fans have compared the <em>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> movies to the <em>Star Wars<\/em> franchise, being that the stories take place on planets other than Earth, among other similarities. Like the introduction of <strong>Boba Fett<\/strong> in the <em>Star Wars Holiday Special<\/em> of 1978 which preceeded <em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>, the Guardians special will introduce a new character before the next main entry, <em>Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3<\/em>, releasing in 2023. It is already known that the holiday special will lead directly into Vol. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course Gunn is no stranger to using oddball characters as he has recently come off the <strong>Warner Bros.<\/strong> hit supervillain team-up film<em> The Suicide Squad<\/em>, which introduced the fan-favorite <strong>Peacemaker<\/strong> (who is getting his own show in January 2022). This, along with his previous two Guardians entries, proves that the filmmaker has no problem introducing lesser-known characters to established franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special<\/em> will release in the holiday season of 2022.
