2020 was a year that hit hard for everyone. From Fortune 500 companies to local business’s, all felt the sting of the COVID-19 Pandemic<\/strong> in one way or another. And one company that felt the bite in a bad way was legendary comic book publishing giant DC Comics<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is home to some of the most recognizable and timeless characters. From heroic figures like Superman<\/strong>, Wonder Woman<\/strong> and Batman<\/strong>, to infamous villains including Joker<\/strong>, Harley Quinn<\/strong> and Darkseid<\/strong>, DC suffered a major blow when one-third of its staff were let go due to major layoffs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now 2021 seems to be a rebound year for DC. Not only are they putting out new comics that help to bring in new readers and excite long-time ones, they are poised to deliver a major blockbuster motion picture with James Gunn’s<\/strong> The Suicide Squad<\/strong><\/em> which opens in theaters on August 6, 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong> sat down with CCO Jim Lee<\/strong> and Senior VP\/GM Daniel Cherry III <\/strong>to discuss what was in store for DC’s future. Below is an excerpt from the interview. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year ago things were pretty dire. How has the last year been?<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>

Lee:\u00a02020 on all levels was a challenging year for everybody. A year out, we\u2019re in a good spot. Part of what we\u2019ve done in this year was think about the infrastructure and the resources we have and where we want to place our biggest bets in terms of the publishing business going forward.<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>

The world opening up a little bit, the fans responding to the content we launched earlier this year,\u00a0Future State\u00a0and\u00a0Infinite Frontier, has made a big difference.<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>

Cherry:\u00a0As a major player in this industry, it\u2019s really up to us to redefine what this means for the next generation of fans and to build the right type of organization that can future-proof itself to meet that fan demand. So the changes that we are making organizationally, and also with our content, is so that we can evolve this industry and meet fans where they are.<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
