{"id":39496,"date":"2021-07-25T15:37:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-25T22:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=39496"},"modified":"2021-07-25T15:37:02","modified_gmt":"2021-07-25T22:37:02","slug":"captain-america-the-first-avenger-initially-included-a-giant-nazi-robot-fight-scene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=39496","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Captain America: The First Avenger&#8221; Initially Included A Giant Nazi Robot Fight Scene"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The screenwriting duo that penned down all three of the box-office hit<strong> Captain America<\/strong> movies, revealed cancelled out plots as<strong><em> Captain America: The First Avenger<\/em><\/strong> celebrates it&#8217;s ten-year anniversary. <strong>Christopher Markus<\/strong> and <strong>Stephen McFeely<\/strong>, not only co-wrote the Captain America trilogy but were also wrote the climax to <strong>Marvel<\/strong>&#8216;s Infinity Saga: <em><strong>Avengers: Infinity War<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Avengers: Endgame<\/strong><\/em>. Their partnership began back in 2008 when they teamed up with Marvel Cinematic Universe on the <em>Captain America: The First Avenger<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/E7HstRGXIAIm6To.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWe then chased <em>Cap<\/em> all year, and remember, these are early days for that studio. There\u2019s six people in the whole building, they\u2019re above a car dealership, they\u2019re not the Marvel we think of now.\u201d <\/p><cite>Stephen McFeely  to Yahoo Entertainment<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The First Avenger<\/em> came out on July 19th, 2011 and was the fifth movie to release in what came to be known as the <em>Infinity Saga <\/em>consisting of 23-movies. However, the work on this film began in early 2008 when the screenwriting duo came aboard the project, long before Evans was cast as the lead. McFeely remembers there being a lot of <strong>Jake Gyllenhaall<\/strong> pictures wearing the <em>Captain America<\/em> suit. <em>\u201cThey would do sketches of the costumes and sometimes they\u2019ll just pick an actor and put him in the costume<\/em>,\u201d said McFeely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sebastian Stan<\/strong> had also auditioned for the role of Captain America but the writers had found his take on the iconic hero a bit dark. Stan was eventually cast as Steve Roger&#8217;s best friend Bucky Barnes, who later becomes<strong> The Winter Soldier<\/strong> in the comics as well as the movies. When it came to casting <strong>Chris Evans<\/strong> as Captain America, he wasn&#8217;t very sure of it at first after playing a superhero in the <em><strong>Fantastic Four<\/strong><\/em> movies that were critically bashed. But once he joined, he helped shape the character of <em>Steve <\/em>to the person we saw on screen for the last decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/external-preview.redd.it\/P77tS8cdgRcauBd8hxDPEoBFehIPxD8KcrgM_Ko1SdA.jpg?auto=webp&amp;s=31e823ae07096c710b786b1f9330e1e3d6e1b6a7\" alt=\"\" width=\"844\" height=\"422\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the interview that Mcfeely and Markus gave to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/captain-america-first-avenger-nazi-robot-villain-steve-rogers-virginity-174003363.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/captain-america-first-avenger-nazi-robot-villain-steve-rogers-virginity-174003363.html\"> <em>Yahoo Entertainment<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> they stated that the script changed dramatically from the time they came onboard in 2008 to its eventual release in 2011 with the writers saying the biggest difference involved a \u201c<em>huge Hydra robot<\/em>.\u201d Apparently most of the third act of the film consisted of <em>Captain America<\/em> fighting a Giant Nazi Robot controlled by the big bad of the movie, <em>Red Skull<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>A large chunk of the third act was Cap fighting this robot<\/em>,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/captain-america-first-avenger-nazi-robot-villain-steve-rogers-virginity-174003363.html\">Markus <\/a>reveals. This idea was eventually cut down before the film went into production due to budget and timing issues. Markus said that after a point they really just couldn&#8217;t spend so much time or money on that idea and had to scrap it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Would Captain America fighting a Nazi Robot have made the film a bigger hit or completely ruined the path that the MCU was on?
