The LGBTQ+ trail being blazed by Marvel Studios<\/strong> will only get wider and clearer. In exclusive comments to Variety<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s Marc Malkin<\/strong> at last week\u2019s Black Wido<\/em><\/strong>w premiere, Marvel\u2019s Executive Vice-President of Production Victoria Alonso<\/strong> said the recent reveal of Loki<\/strong>\u2019s sexual fluidity on the Disney+<\/strong> series is a harbinger of future content. However, she added that progress will be purposeful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what Alonso had to say while speaking to Variety<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot that we have coming up that I think will be representative of the world of today. We\u2019re not going to nail it in the first movie or the second movie or third movie, or the first show or second show, but we will do our best to consistently try to represent.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

She added that Tom Hiddleston<\/strong>\u2019s Loki reveal was not as revelatory inside Marvel as it may have been to viewers. This what she said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is what it is when it suits the character. We\u2019re not going to do it because it\u2019s politically correct or incorrect. It is what it is. Don\u2019t forget, we follow our comics. We try to follow them quite to the tee. So in the comics this is who he was.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\"Loki<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Alonso continued, \u201cWe\u2019re not changing anything. We\u2019re just showing the world who these people are, who these characters are\u2026There\u2019s a lot that we have coming up that I think will be representative of the world of today.<\/em>\u201d Indeed the Marvel canon is full of characters who are not heterosexual. Versions of Thor<\/em><\/strong>‘s Valkyrie<\/strong>, Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s Peter Quill\/Star Lord<\/strong>, Black Panther<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s Okoye<\/strong>, and Deadpool<\/strong> are among the major players known to span the spectrum. It remains to be seen if or how the MCU will flesh out these LGBT characters in future projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
