One of the biggest media mergers<\/a> of late just took hold. WarnerMedia<\/strong> and Discovery<\/strong> have just combined into a new company<\/strong> with Discovery CEO David Zaslov <\/strong>at the helm. The news comes fresh off the heels of WarnerMedia trying to usher studio chairman<\/strong> Toby Emmerich<\/a> out the door earlier this month, thus making their CEO Jason Kilar<\/strong>‘s position in the restructuring unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Discovery comes to the table with media from outlets like CNN<\/strong>, TBS<\/strong>, TNT<\/strong>, HGTV<\/strong>, Food Network<\/strong>, Discovery+<\/strong>, and of course the Discovery Channel<\/strong>. Combined with WarnerMedia’s own massive content library including WB Studios<\/strong>, and all of the acquired IP<\/strong> on HBO Max<\/strong> like DC Comics<\/strong> and Cartoon Network<\/strong>, the deal<\/strong> looks to rival that of the Disney-Fox <\/strong>buyout from 2019. A $43 billion trust<\/strong> is in store for AT&T along with acquiring a majority of the stock holds<\/strong>. Estimations currently put the projected revenue<\/strong> for 2023 at $53 billion, with $3 billion in cost synergies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaslav’s focus on said “diverse choices” in terms of “talent and storytellers” could be quite a telling comment. Jason Kilar has gone on the record multiple times for his praise of unique, visionary directors<\/strong> like Zack Snyder<\/strong>, matching Zaslav’s own empowering statement on creative freedom. With the merger shaking up positions<\/strong> for Kilar and others, fans should continue to check back with The Cultured Nerd<\/strong> for word on how the restructuring<\/strong> finalizes. Should Emmerich or other studio executives <\/strong>within WarnerMedia’s current hierarchy be removed from their positions, Zaslav and Kilar’s focus on backing talents such as Snyder and the recently disgruntled Christopher Nolan<\/strong> could become one of the company’s new directions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
