FMB 3\/7\/21\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qFxn1q-KqW8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/wandavision-finale-matt-shakman-cut-storylines\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/wandavision-finale-matt-shakman-cut-storylines\/\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> dug into the heart of <strong>Shakman<\/strong>&#8216;s sense of <strong>scope<\/strong> for the <strong>finale<\/strong>. First and foremost, fans found out that some <strong>actors<\/strong> were due for more time in the spotlight. Of all of the <strong>characters<\/strong> featured in the final episode, perhaps one of the biggest slights happened to none other than <strong>Teyonah Parris<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>super-powered<\/strong> take on &#8220;<strong>Monica Rambeau<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"647\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MR-1024x647.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MR-1024x647.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MR-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MR-768x486.jpg 768w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MR.jpg 1199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, the future <strong><em>Captain Marvel 2<\/em><\/strong> star&#8217;s role was cut short in a big way. While Rambeau did manage to save <strong>Wanda<\/strong>&#8216;s twins, <strong>Billy<\/strong> and <strong>Tommy<\/strong>, from certain doom, as well as uncovering a series-long <strong>mystery<\/strong>,  we now know that the <strong>S.W.O.R.D. agent<\/strong> once had some much larger shoes to fill. \u201cWe built and rebuilt so many different versions of how [Monica] would function in the finale,\u201d Shakman said. \u201cShe had in some versions a much bigger role to play in the larger fight that was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-7.53.47-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-7.53.47-PM.png 750w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-7.53.47-PM-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fighting<\/strong> was certainly going to happen, but Parris wouldn&#8217;t have been alone. One of the scrapped <strong>scenes<\/strong> involved her teaming up with the <strong>twins<\/strong>, <strong>Ralph<\/strong>, and <strong>Darcy<\/strong>, as the three entered <strong>Agatha<\/strong>&#8216;s bewitched <strong>basement<\/strong> to steal <strong>the Darkhold<\/strong>. Shakman then went on to throw a wrench in the group&#8217;s plans by facing them off with none other than the deceptively cute <strong>Se\u00f1or Scratchy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cWe did have something planned for Senor Scratchy which we ultimately couldn\u2019t do just because the finale had so many different chess pieces. But we did have a whole sequence where Darcy, Monica, Ralph meet up with the kids, and they\u2019re in Agatha\u2019s house, and they think that maybe they should steal the Darkhold from the basement because the kids has seen it down there when they were being held hostage. And they go down to get the book, and as they reach out to get the book, the rabbit hops up in front of the book. And they\u2019re like, \u201cOh it\u2019s Senor Scratchy, he\u2019s the best!\u201d And they reach over the scratch him and he hisses and this whole\u00a0American Werewolf in London\u00a0transformation happens where rabbit turns into this big demon. And a\u00a0Goonies\u00a0set piece ensues where they try to escape from the rabbit. We shot it, but didn\u2019t finish all the VFX for it. It was a great sequence, it was super fun and everyone was great in it, but we ended up moving it aside because it was a huge detour in the middle of everything going on.\u201d<\/em><\/p><cite>&#8211; Matt Shakman via: Fatman Beyond Podcast<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But spectacular scenes were far from the only <strong>victims<\/strong> in the <strong>production <\/strong>process. \u201cWe wrapped in <strong>Atlanta<\/strong> and the pandemic hit, and we ended up having several months off, so further changes happened during that,\u201d Shakman said. \u201cWe were doing <strong>post-production<\/strong>, and then ideas would come up and little changes would happen.\u201d One such change involved the largely unpopular choice of only releasing the first two <strong>episodes<\/strong> together to avoid <strong>delaying<\/strong> the finale, whereas the original plan called for three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>WandaVision<\/em><\/strong>&#8216;s finale in particular only wrapped post-production two weeks prior to its release on <strong>Disney+<\/strong>. The <strong>streaming<\/strong> giant was even due for a ten-episode <strong>series<\/strong> instead of the nine fans got, but the pandemic&#8217;s delays and studio heads&#8217; rewrites changed all of the director&#8217;s plans.
