The film stars <strong>Dylan O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, <strong>Jessica Henwick,<\/strong> <strong>Arianna Greenblatt<\/strong>, and <strong>Michael Rooker.<\/strong> The movie is directed by <strong>Michael Matthews<\/strong>, with a screenplay by <strong>Brian Duffield<\/strong> and <strong>Matthew Robinson<\/strong>. The movie follows Joel, a young survivor of one of the few remaining human colonies on earth. The world was taken over by mutated monsters, and the apocalypse separated Joel from his old love Aimee. 7 years later, Joel decides to trek over 80 miles of monster infested land to reunite with his lost love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"681\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33066\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-1.jpg 681w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><br> I was thoroughly impressed by just how well this movie was written. The magnetic screenplay has so much emotional depth to it, much more than I was expecting. The movie is filled with tons of likable and memorable characters. I found myself attached to all the characters and rooting for all of them to achieve their goals. Even characters that didn\u2019t have much screen time were given great personalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-1536x863.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/15loveandmonsters-art-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><br> I found the movie actually had a great balance between the humor and the drama. A lot of movies like the ones in <strong>MCU<\/strong> find it hard to make jokes without breaking the tension. <strong>Dylan O\u2019Brien<\/strong>\u2019s line delivery, combined with the good timing, lets the humor land every time without me cringing at the now deflated tension. This movie can have you crying but let out a laugh in the same scene and it works.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/LOVE-AND-MONSTERS-Official-Trailer-Paramount-Movies-YouTube-1-28-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33069\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/LOVE-AND-MONSTERS-Official-Trailer-Paramount-Movies-YouTube-1-28-1.jpeg 853w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/LOVE-AND-MONSTERS-Official-Trailer-Paramount-Movies-YouTube-1-28-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/LOVE-AND-MONSTERS-Official-Trailer-Paramount-Movies-YouTube-1-28-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> <em>Love and Monster<\/em>\u2019s story is bolstered by its incredible cast. <strong>Dylan O\u2019Brien<\/strong> has a believable performance which slowly changes as the character progresses. <strong>Jessica Henwick <\/strong>is proving herself to be an underrated talent working. I was particularly impressed with an action scene she has later in the movie. <strong>Michael Rooker<\/strong> is playing a witty jerk as per usual in his career, but he does a good job and his character has some heart to it. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020-1024x423.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33071\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020-1024x423.png 1024w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020-768x317.png 768w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020-1536x634.png 1536w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Love.and_.Monsters.2020.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> The special effects in this movie were very good. Not only did the CGI look realistic, it was also integrated into the environment very well. The movie isn\u2019t completely CGI, as far as I could tell they shot the scenes in practical sets and environments. I admire how this movie only used CGI for things that they couldn\u2019t possibly film. What they could film they did, and the animated what was necessary. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-1024x580.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33072\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-1024x580.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/love-and-monsters.jpg 1061w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br> The action in this movie was really well done. As I said earlier, <strong>Jessica Henwick<\/strong> has a really great action scene towards the end of the movie. It\u2019s all filmed in camera and with steady hands. The scenes are incredibly tense and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. It was nice to see so much effort was put into the action scenes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/loveandmonsters1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33074\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/loveandmonsters1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/loveandmonsters1-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/loveandmonsters1-768x516.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><br> <em>Love and Monsters <\/em>was a surprise. The movie almost came out of nowhere and delivered such emotionally deep writing. The acting is top tier, and brings the really heartfelt writing home, there is not a weak performance in this movie. The comedy works really well and never breaks your immersion. The special effects are believable and don\u2019t overstay their welcome. The action is filmed with such finesse making all the action scenes tense and sometimes fun.
