Trebek&#8217;s legacy as the host of <em>Jeopardy<\/em>! contains numerous accolades, including five <strong>Emmy awards <\/strong>and the <strong>Guinness World Record<\/strong> for the most amount of game show episodes with the same presenter\u2014over 8,200 episodes at the time of his passing.  In 2011, he also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Jeopardy!<\/em> made the announcement of Trebek&#8217;s death on Twitter Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-x\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. (@Jeopardy) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Jeopardy\/status\/1325490106329751553?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 8, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The devastating news, to some, seemed inevitable, as Trebek had announced in March 2019 that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but that he would still continue to film episodes of Jeopardy despite the illness.  His perseverance in continuing to host the show, even when dealing with cancer, was a testament to his dedication to the program, and many fans expressed their support after the announcement of his diagnosis was made public.
