Johnny Depp <\/strong>released a statement indicating that he is stepping down from his role as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald <\/strong><\/em>in the Fantastic Beasts <\/strong><\/em>film franchise. The news comes after his recent failed libel case<\/a> against The Sun<\/em><\/strong>, a British tabloid newspaper, that wrote an article in 2018 that labeled the actor as a “wife beater.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depp posted to Instagram<\/strong> earlier today to inform his fans of his exit;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in \u2018Fantastic Beasts\u2019 and I have respected and agreed to that request,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
