James Gunn<\/strong> reveals in an interview with Empire<\/a> that he found out he would be able to return to helm the third installation of the Guardians Of Galaxy<\/em><\/strong> series one day after signing up for The Suicide Squad<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gunn was briefly fired from the third installment of the Guardians of Galaxy<\/em> series due to his old offensive tweets coming to light (for which he later apologized) . With his future with Marvel Studios<\/strong> up in the air, DC<\/strong> wasted no time in bringing in Gunn for a DC project. DC had given Gunn a free rein of characters to pick and develop a movie, out of which he picked Suicide Squad<\/em> to be his next project. Gunn also mentioned he didn\u2019t keep this project a secret from his Marvel friends and colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After learning from Alan Horn<\/strong> (head of Walt Disney Studios) that he would be allowed to return, Gunn also informed MCU head Kevin Feige<\/strong> that his next project would be a DC film. When told it was a DC movie, Feige asked: \u201cIs it,\u00a0Superman<\/em>?\u201d Gunn stated that it wasn\u2019t Superman and explained that he had chosen\u00a0The Suicide Squad<\/em>. Feige reacted by saying \u201cPlease, please make a good movie. Just\u2026 make a great movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKevin Feige knew who all those characters were for months before we revealed them at FanDome, He still knows who the villain is. I think he\u2019s pretty trustworthy with his NDA!\u201d <\/p>James Gunn<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Although it ended well, Gunn reveals it also led to some awkward conversations with Marvel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was<\/em> a happy ending, but it was also scary because I got the call from Alan Horn, long before it was announced: it happened literally the day after I agreed to do The Suicide Squad<\/em>\u201d<\/p>James Gunn<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Suicide Squad<\/em> is scheduled to premiere on August 6, 2021. The film will feature a star-studded cast with Margot Robbie <\/strong>as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman <\/strong>as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney <\/strong>as Captain Boomerang<\/strong>, Viola Davis<\/strong> as Amanda Waller<\/strong>; <\/strong>alongside them will be Idris Elba<\/strong> as Bloodsport<\/strong>, John Cena<\/strong> as Peacemaker, Steve Agee <\/strong>as King Shark, David Dastmalchian<\/strong> as Polka Dot Man, Nathan Fillion<\/strong> as TDK, Daniela Melchior<\/strong> as Ratcatcher II, Peter Capaldi <\/strong>as Thinker, Alice Braga<\/strong> as Solsoria, Flula Borg<\/strong> as Javelin, Mayling NG <\/strong>as Mongal,<\/strong> Sean Gunn<\/strong> as Weasel<\/strong>, Pete Davidson<\/strong> as Blackguard,<\/strong>and Taika Waititi <\/strong>playing an undisclosed role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
