Thousands of people tuned in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Twitter tennis match has been going all day, and it started with this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m so sorry this happened to you, David. I know the pain. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UOQdHcOmeN\">https:\/\/t.co\/UOQdHcOmeN<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Cathy Yan (@CathyYan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CathyYan\/status\/1267119497942532098?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yan is supporting fellow director David Ayer while acknowledging that sometimes there are troubles behind the scenes that we don\u2019t see. Sometimes there is a give and take between the director\u2019s vision and the studio\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hollywood scooper Grace Randolph then retweeted Yan\u2019s reply and commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I told you guys, massive reshoots largely to take out &#8216;dick [pics]&#8217; storyline &amp; add more action via Chad Stahelski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m surprised Yan would jump on this bandwagon though &#8211; #BirdsOfPrey very well reviewed by critics &amp; has a very strong fan base that vehemently defends film as is #DCEU&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>-Grace Randolph<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Excuse me, you have no idea what you\u2019re talking about. Well, on one hand, you have the director, who was directly involved in the filming and with the studio themselves. On the other hand, we have a Hollywood scooper, who tends to get confirmed information from sources (that we can only assume) are close to the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would like to point out that when Yan tweeted sympathy to the pain Ayer went through, it definitely sounded like there was studio interference of some kind. That could be anything from costume design, to plot change, and everything in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yan didn&#8217;t specify what it could have been, so people will draw their own conclusions and run with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The matter at hand here is whether there were reshoots, specifically for the rumored storyline of diamond genitalia pictures of Roman. That is what Randolph is not backing down from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is not true. There has never been any discussion around the size of Roman\u2019s dick. I can\u2019t believe I even have to write that! The original script called for an image of Roman as Michelangelo\u2019s David. You know? Art? Yan clears the air and confirms that her original script included an image of Roman as Michelangelo\u2019s <em>David<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not quite a &#8220;dick pic,&#8221; as many have been parading about since before the film&#8217;s release and well after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It was a joke to show how narcissist he is. It didn\u2019t work \u2014 we all agreed \u2014 so we rewrote some ADR. That\u2019s it. Randolph tweeted that this confirmed her scoop of a &#8220;dick pic&#8221; storyline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yan disputes any &#8220;dick pics&#8221; involved; Randolph doubles down and cites &#8220;multiple insiders.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yan thanks Randolph for support, but asks her to stop peddling a pedophilia rumor and gossip, as it is not journalism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Randolph states that multiple reporters confirmed her scoop, that &#8220;dick pics&#8221; aren\u2019t pedophilia, and that Yan should see the optics of \u201cpretending to have a better &#8216;Yan cut.'&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Randolph responds to a fan about her scoop, &#8220;you could see Roman\u2019s dick on the statue in the picture in the diamond &#8211; and he was upset it looked &#8216;small.'&#8221; And that &#8220;a picture of a statue\u2019s dick, especially i[n] this context, is a dick pic.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yan responds that there was no discussion of Roman\u2019s &#8220;size,&#8221; that the original scene was an image of Roman on Michelangelo\u2019s<em> David, <\/em>and that there were no reshoots for it whatsoever.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yan goes on to call journalists that ran with Randolph\u2019s &#8220;dick pic&#8221; scoop, centering it around pedophilia, as &#8220;the scum of journalism.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Randolph says she has never used the word &#8220;pedophilia&#8221; in her reporting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many journalists are quick to be first rather than quick to be right. Controversy creates views, views gets clicks, clicks get paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When this happens, the outrage of journalists, scoopers, and critics can cause a storm of opinions than many listen to. In turn, the viewer may have a skewed outlook going into a film, or simply not even go to a film based on what these individuals say. Likewise, the opposite is true in a positive sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Randolph says &#8220;dick pic,&#8221; no one thinks of a statue. Most people won&#8217;t even dig further because she is their source of breaking news. If she stops there, &#8220;dick pic&#8221; has nothing to do with a statue. Instead, a grotesque image is seared into everyone\u2019s minds. She did not mention pedophilia in her article, and she did say a &#8220;dick pic&#8221; isn\u2019t pedophilia. (Unless there\u2019s a minor involved, like the character Cassandra Cain&#8211;then it could be considered pedophilia. Just ask <em>CosmicBook.News<\/em> how they viewed her scoop.) Shame on her if she knew that scene was about a statue and failing to mention that. Shame on her for misleading thousands and thousands of people for a few more clicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, Yan went that far, and seeing a scoop be twisted into a headline like \u201cBirds of Prey Has Pedophilia Elements,\u201d I can understand her frustration. A storyline that didn\u2019t make the movie garnered more headlines leading up to the release than anything else. Yan clearing the air on this scene may have scoopers think twice about omitting any context related to their leaks, or even leaking completely false narratives altogether. If more directors correct these false leaks, that can change the tide between those directly involved with making a film, and those trying to make a buck off clicks. Those are the scum of journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Running a story that isn&#8217;t entirely factual can be warped by anyone looking for a controversial topic.
