While we know the film will be a gritty noir take on Batman and his rogues, we know next to nothing of the plot.  <a href=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/2020\/04\/the-batman-wont-be-an-origin-story-will-take-place-in-a-contemporary-setting\/\">Early last month<\/a>, Reeves spoke about how the film will take place in a contemporary setting, and will explore Batman&#8217;s internal struggles\u2014continuing the director&#8217;s trend of humanist storytelling\u2014and Serkis&#8217;s recent statements about <em>The Batman<\/em> further reinforce this idea of heart in the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ladbible.com\/news\/tv-and-film-the-batman-will-be-darker-than-previous-films-andy-serkis-hints-20200508.amp.html\"><em>LADbible<\/em><\/a>, Serkis was asked if we should expect a &#8220;darker, broodier&#8221; Batman.  The actor had a simple answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u00a0&#8220;I would say that&#8217;s not far from the truth.  It&#8217;s very much about the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce. That&#8217;s really at the center of it. And it is a really exquisite script that Matt has written.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/akns-images.eonline.com\/eol_images\/Entire_Site\/2020113\/rs_1024x544-200213153621-1024-robert-pattinson-as-batman.jpg\" alt=\"Robert Pattinson from Everything We Know About The Batman | E! News\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serkis also spoke about how he plans on differentiating himself from previous iterations of his character Alfred Pennyworth, such as Michael Caine&#8217;s take on the butler in the <em>Dark Knight<\/em> trilogy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;[Caine] was fantastic. His Alfred was legendary, I couldn&#8217;t even begin to go there, really.  You find it for yourself. It&#8217;s like playing these iconic roles in Shakespeare, you go back, you revisit them and you have to make it your own, and see what it is about he character that connects with you and your personal venn diagram.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The actor also shared that he been halfway through his part in the film before quarantine put the project on hold.  The actor said he&#8217;s interested in seeing how the project would be affected by COVID-19, when production finally starts up again.  Regardless, Serkis said <em>The Batman<\/em> will be &#8220;a beautiful film.&#8221;  It seems the film will be taking a grounded, emotional approach\u2014something Batman comics have never shied away from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Batman<\/em> is now slated for release October 1, 2021.
