Their representation hasn&#8217;t been perfect but with films like <em>Black Panther<\/em> and <em>Captain Marvel<\/em>, it seems like the franchise is now starting to reflect the world we live in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark Ruffalo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/features\/mark-ruffalo-interview-dark-waters-avengers-marvel-trump-kevin-feige-boris-johnson-a9351101.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"sat down with The Independent (opens in a new tab)\">sat down with The Independent<\/a> for an interview and talked about Marvel head Kevin Feige. In the interview, he talks about a conversation he had with Feige on the set of <em>Avengers<\/em>. He talked about Feige&#8217;s frustration with Disney not believing in female-led superhero films. Ruffalo said the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWhen we did the first\u00a0<em>Avengers<\/em>, Kevin Feige told me, \u2018Listen, I might not be here tomorrow. And he\u2019s like, \u2018Ike [Isaac Perlmutter, Disney\u2019s largest shareholder at the time] does not believe that anyone will go to a female-starring superhero movie. So if I am still here tomorrow, you will know that I won that battle.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ike Perlmutter was in charge of Marvel Entertainment and used to work with Feige directly. They both reportedly had a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"very strained relationship (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/marvels-civil-war-why-kevin-820147\" target=\"_blank\">very strained relationship<\/a>, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Perlmutter was apparently the reason (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bleedingcool.com\/2019\/09\/26\/when-disney-ordered-ike-perlmutter-to-stop-blocking-black-panther-and-captain-marvel-movies\/\" target=\"_blank\">Perlmutter was apparently the reason<\/a> why Marvel took a while to make a female-led film. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ruffalo stated that Feige wanted more representation in the MCU since its beginning, but couldn&#8217;t at the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cBecause Kevin wanted black superheroes, women superheroes, LGBT superheroes. He changed the whole Marvel universe. We now have a gay superhero on the way, we have black superheroes, we have female superheroes \u2013\u00a0Scarlett Johansson\u00a0has her movie coming out, we have\u00a0Captain Marvel, they are doing She-Hulk next. No other studio is being that inclusive on that level. They have to, though. This is the f***ing world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Black Widow&#8217;s<\/em> arrival to theaters may be overdue, but it shows Feige was at least listening to the fans.
