Disney+ will be the home for <em>Star Wars <\/em>stories on the small screen, while Disney has a trio of films planned for the 2020s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Force Awakens, Rogue One,<\/em> <em>The Last Jedi<\/em>, and <em>The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> were very successful, but <em>Solo&#8217;s<\/em> box office disappointment showed that the brand isn&#8217;t bulletproof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite how well-made these current Disney films are, a lot are divided on the direction they have gone in. <em>Rogue One<\/em> and <em>Solo<\/em> were meant to be the start of spin-off films taking place in different corners of the universe, but it seems like they&#8217;re taking that angle to Disney+. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">No it isn\u2019t true, I\u2019m still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I\u2019m sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions.<\/p>&mdash; Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rianjohnson\/status\/1095904544339353600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2019<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not much is known about the future films in development, except that Rian Johnson at the moment is involved in some capacity, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2019\/10\/star-wars-setback-game-of-thrones-duo-david-benioff-d-b-weiss-exit-trilogy-1202771184\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Game of Thrones showrunners (opens in a new tab)\"><em>Game of Thrones<\/em> showrunners<\/a> aren&#8217;t anymore. What is clear is how much people are enjoying the first live-action <em>Star Wars<\/em> ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Mandalorian \u2013 Official Trailer 2 | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XmI7WKrAtqs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Mandalorian<\/em> has become somewhat of a phenomenon, especially with the internet&#8217;s adoration of The Child, aka Baby Yoda. Cuteness aside, <em>The Mandalorian<\/em> is a breath of fresh air that the <em>Star Wars<\/em> franchise needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a show that&#8217;s not about the Jedi, Skywalkers, the force, the Empire, or any of the things that feel all too familiar. It&#8217;s honestly just about an armored bounty hunter figuring things out in his own world. It&#8217;s a show full of nice character moments, amazing production value, well-directed action, and respectable world-building. The show takes its cues more from classic Westerns, which is what <em>A New Hope<\/em> is inspired by. The storytelling is relatively simple and it doesn&#8217;t try to reinvent the wheel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Showrunner Jon Favreau and everyone else involved went out of their way to meticulously capture that old school <em>Star Wars<\/em> aesthetic, while also finding an interesting story to tell. Pedro Pascal deserves credit for making a faceless protagonist feel so human with a physically expressive performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order \u2013 Launch Trailer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xIl2z5wwjdA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another <em>Star Wars<\/em> property that deserves recognition at the moment is the recently released <em>Jedi: Fallen Order<\/em> videogame. The story has a new Jedi protagonist at the forefront with a colorful supporting cast of characters and a new story that explores an interesting place in that universe&#8217;s timeline. Despite the underwhelming past efforts of EA&#8217;s <em>Star Wars <\/em>games, <em>Fallen Order<\/em> garnered positive reception showing that there&#8217;s interest in new experiences as long as they are done well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the praise of <em>The Mandalorian<\/em> and <em>Jedi: Fallen Order<\/em>, <em>The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> did not satisfy everyone because of its baggage. <em>Episode IX <\/em>will be the end of Disney&#8217;s first phase of Star Wars films that started with <em>The Force Awakens<\/em>.  For a lot of fans, the damage has been done, but that doesn&#8217;t mean there isn&#8217;t any interest in new stories. People are just craving new and refreshing stories that are well done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something like comic book movie fatigue may seem like a possibility, but that won&#8217;t happen anytime soon since those films are always playing with genre conventions and offering up new twists on pre-established characters. But comic book films are handled by multiple studios, while all of <em>Star Wars <\/em>is under Disney. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next era of Star Wars will definitely be challenging for Disney. Favreau and Dave Filoni (creator of the well-received <em>Clone Wars<\/em> and <em>Rebels<\/em>) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"are reported (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/star-wars-uncertainty-extends-kathleen-kennedys-disney-future-1256357\" target=\"_blank\">are reported<\/a> to have more influence at Lucasfilm down the line. When looking at their track record with the franchise, both of them have proven to be capable <em>Star Wars<\/em> storytellers, but can they offer up an interesting variety of <em>Star Wars<\/em> stories? Can any future <em>Star Wars<\/em> film, TV show, or video game offer a balance of the grand spectacle expected from the franchise with new stories worth telling?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only time can tell what will happen to the franchise, but <em>The Mandalorian<\/em> might be the best preview of what&#8217;s to come. If Disney can make more interesting stories that take its time to develop its characters and the world surrounding them while also keeping things fresh and exciting, then <em>Star Wars<\/em> is in a good place. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nThe Rise of Skywalker seems to be the end of the Skywalker Saga, but not of Star Wars altogether.
