{"id":16730,"date":"2019-10-25T10:16:49","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T17:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=16730"},"modified":"2019-10-31T15:40:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T22:40:00","slug":"disney-denies-theatres-ability-to-screen-20th-century-fox-back-catalogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=16730","title":{"rendered":"Disney Apparently Denying Theaters Ability to Screen 20th Century Fox&#8217;s Back Catalogue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/20th-Century-Fox.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"198\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legendary \u201cDisney Vault\u201d is growing, much to the dismay of theatre managers and film programmers attempting to acquire the rights to screen movie classics from the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century Fox catalogue. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2019\/10\/disney-is-quietly-placing-classic-fox-movies-into-its-vault.html\">A new report by Vulture<\/a> details the difficulties and challenges presented to various programmers across the country who were denied the ability to show classics such as <em>The Omen <\/em>and <em>The Princess Bride<\/em> at their local cineplex. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While no official reason has been\ngiven for the sudden change in policy, theories abound, ranging from Disney\nattempting to nudge consumers into subscribing to its upcoming streaming\nservice, Disney+, to an assumption that Disney may just be doing business as\nusual and extending a long held policy for Disney releases to the newly acquired\nFox properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are some who wonder if there is\na more nefarious reason for the change, however.
