{"id":15297,"date":"2015-02-13T18:31:31","date_gmt":"2015-02-14T02:31:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/?p=15297"},"modified":"2015-02-13T18:31:31","modified_gmt":"2015-02-14T02:31:31","slug":"dave-bautista-to-play-the-villain-in-the-highlander-reboot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=15297","title":{"rendered":"Dave Bautista to play the villain in the Highlander Reboot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bautista.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15299 \" src=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bautista.png\" alt=\"bautista\" width=\"605\" height=\"431\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The upcoming Highlander reboot just got a lot more exciting with Dave Bautista being offered the part of The Kurgan. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latino-review.com\/news\/exclusive-guardians-of-the-galaxy-dave-bautista-to-play-the-kurgan-in-highlander-reboot\">Latino Review<\/a> reports that Bautista will take on the mantle of the wickedly twisted villain portrayed by Clancy Brown in the original 1986 film. Honestly, could they have made a more inspired casting choice than Bautista to play a hulking head hunter from the dawn of time?<\/p>\n<p>Aside from first time director Cedric Nicolas Troyan, Bautista is the only confirmed name for the reboot. While it has been rumored that Ramirez (Sean Connery&#8217;s mentor role in the original) may be played by Tom Cruise, nothing is set in stone just yet. Most notably missing from the casting thus far is The Highlander Connor MacLeod himself. However, Troyan does have something to say about that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe have to find that younger emerging guy, and surround him with a strong Kurgan, and an actor who shines as Ramirez the way Connery did in that film film.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>J<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-15298 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/davebautista-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"davebautista\" width=\"217\" height=\"217\" \/>ob well done, Troyan. However, it&#8217;s still unknown if the reboot will be any good, as most fans are just wishing it would go away rather than be the next <i>Robocop<\/i>. The film doesn&#8217;t necessarily need to be rated R to show the decapitations and devastating sword fights, but it definitely can&#8217;t be a watered down version of the original. Plus, how can you top that soundtrack by Queen?<\/p>\n<p><i>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/i> won&#8217;t have to wait until <i>Highlander<\/i>&#8216;s release to see more of Bautista on the big screen.
