{"id":15008,"date":"2015-01-28T13:41:10","date_gmt":"2015-01-28T21:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/?p=15008"},"modified":"2015-01-28T13:41:10","modified_gmt":"2015-01-28T21:41:10","slug":"night-of-the-living-dead-prequel-is-happening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=15008","title":{"rendered":"Night of the Living Dead Prequel Is Happening!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Origins-Zombie-Cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15016\" src=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Origins-Zombie-Cover.jpg\" alt=\"Origins Zombie Cover\" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/a>According to sources, George Romero&#8217;s son is working on a prequel to the original zombie movie, 1968&#8217;s <i>Night of the Living Dead.<\/i> The director has started, and completed, an <a title=\"Origins Video\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/projects\/origins-the-next-generation-romero-zombie-film\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indie-gogo project to fund the film:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/108203125\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>\u201c<\/b><b><i>I feel this is something that I HAVE to do. \u00a0Not only to reclaim the genre in the name of my family and not only to tell the story that my dad\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><i>couldn&#8217;t\u00a0tell in the 60s\u2026 but also\u00a0because I\u2026 like all of you\u2026 was raised on my dad\u2019s creation and am, above all else, a super fan.\u201d <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><i>&#8211;G. Cameron Romero<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The film will be titled <i>Origins,<\/i> and Cameron Romero is promising that it will be unlike any zombie movie we&#8217;ve seen before. Set in the early 1960s, the prequel will delve into how a scientist was desperately trying to prevent global disaster in the Cold War era&#8211;and instead doomed us all. We&#8217;ve seen zombie origin stories before, but never Romero-style. The film aims to <b>&#8220;re-define the genre\u2026 as well as the monster and everything that scares you about them.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the campaign has only raised $30K, but <i>Variety<\/i> tells us that Radar Pictures has stepped in to produce the film.<\/p>\n<p>Zombies have been re-worked and explained in nearly every way imaginable in our day and age, so I&#8217;m skeptical that this film will be entirely different.
