When they announced that <a href=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/2014\/06\/marvels-doctor-strange-has-found-its-director\/\">Scott Derrickson (Sinister) <\/a>took the role, rumors began to begin about the casting of the Doctor himself, with <a href=\"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/2014\/06\/rumor-marvel-is-looking-at-jared-leto-for-doctor-strange\/\">Jared Leto <\/a>being the first name to pop up.<\/p>\n<p>Now according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/06\/marvel-starts-doctor-strange-search-tom-hardy-benedict-cumberbatch-early-wish-listers\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">Deadline<\/a> we can add Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch to the running.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Here\u2019s some hot superhero dish to take into the weekend. There are reports tonight that Peyton Reed and David Wain are being considered for Ant-Man, but man, we are progressing down the comedy director food chain, and this is starting to feel stale. So how about Doctor Strange? Marvel is putting together its cast list, and I\u2019m hearing that Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are on it. While Marvel has teased this property with mentions in films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film solidified and felt urgent when Scott Derrickson tweeted this week that he will direct the script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While many would scratch their heads at Tom Hardy being in the mix (he really doesn&#8217;t fit the profile to be honest), many fans have already been campaigning for Benedict Cumberbatch to have the role for years so this could be a dream come true for many.<\/p>\n<p>So is there any truth to these rumors? Not sure yet, only time will tell if its true or not. In the end these rumors may just turn out to be the product of wishful thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Doctor Strange is currently set for Marvel Phase 3 with no current release date given.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\n&nbsp;
