Nowadays, most people know not to leave the theater before the credits end in a Marvel movie. Marvel has carved out a name for themselves for putting extra little movie scenes in or after the credits.<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing we could usually count on with these credit scenes is that they would be from the same movie the credits were in, or were teasers for upcoming movies in the same series. The Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/em> opened overseas today, and fans received a bit of a shock when a scene from the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past<\/em> played after the credits.\u00a0Understandably so, as the two franchises are owned by two rival film companies (Sony and Fox, respectively). At least in the case of the Disney\/Marvel movies like\u00a0Iron Man<\/em>, the material being promoted was their own.<\/p>\n

So why did Sony promote one of Fox’s movies? Does this mean that we’ll be seeing an X-Men\/Spider-Man<\/em> crossover?<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, no. At least, not in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

According to Variety.com<\/a>, the reason for the\u00a0X-Men<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>promo at the end of the movie was a result of a deal between Sony and Fox concerning director Marc Webb. Apparently, Webb was set to direct another movie with Fox, which would have put a hold on him directing the second Spidey movie. In order to secure Webb to direct the sequel to\u00a0The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>, Sony agreed to promote Fox’s upcoming\u00a0X-Men<\/em> movie for free.<\/p>\n

The Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/em> opens May 2nd, so be sure to stick it out through the credits to see\u00a0Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, Lucas Till’s Havok, and\u00a0Evan Jonigkeit\u2019s Toad in action.<\/span><\/p>\n

X-Men: Days of Future Past<\/em> opens May 23rd.<\/p>\n
