{"id":11381,"date":"2014-03-05T10:53:49","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T18:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theculturednerd.com\/?p=11381"},"modified":"2014-03-05T10:53:49","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T18:53:49","slug":"xbox-one-march-update-released-which-adds-new-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theculturednerd.org\/?p=11381","title":{"rendered":"Xbox One March Update Released Which Adds New Features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new Xbox One update went live today which released a number of new features and tweaks, including the much needed ability to invite friends to games without having to create a party with them first, which was a big gripe for many players, and considered a step back from the functionality on the Xbox 360. \u00a0Below are the improvements released today, as announced on<a href=\"http:\/\/news.xbox.com\/2014\/03\/xbox-one-march-update\"> the official Xbox website<\/a>, including a video overview of the changes from Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson).<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Guided Tour of Everything New in the Xbox One March Update\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KE95tKNPCco?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0From Xbox.com:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Get to your friends list faster.<\/strong>\u00a0The friends list is now front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say \u201cXbox, go to Friends\u201d to see who\u2019s online and what they\u2019re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Party chat on by default.<\/strong>\u00a0When you party up, chat audio is turned on by default.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chat with friends playing different games.<\/strong>\u00a0Party chat is now separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cInvite friends to game\u201d option available in your multiplayer titles.<\/strong>\u00a0Similar to Xbox 360 titles, when you\u2019re inside a game&#8217;s menu you have a simpler and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting \u201cInvite friends\u201d lets you invite friends to your game and party.<\/li>\n<li><strong>See a list of \u201cRecent Players.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you\u2019ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, add new friends after your multiplayer sessions, or report a player for bad behavior.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Twitch live streaming support<\/strong>. The best broadcasting and spectating experience on any game console is on its way to Xbox One with the new Twitch app launching on March 11, just say \u201cXbox broadcast\u201d to start sharing.\u00a0 Xbox One is the only next-gen console that allows you to archive your Twitch broadcasts and view live Twitch streams regardless of their original source.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dolby Digital sound.\u00a0<\/strong>Optical out now supports 5.1 Dolby Digital, enabling devices such as sound bars and headsets with only optical in to be able to receive 5.1 Dolby Digital from Xbox One over optical. We\u2019re also adding support for Dolby Digital surround sound over HDMI. Now you\u2019ll be able to have the best sound quality no matter what speaker setup you are using.<\/li>\n<li><strong>We will now support 50Hz output to Xbox One.<\/strong>\u00a0You can set the live TV app to display at 50Hz for full or fill modes, fixing the frame rate issues some users in Europe have been experiencing while watching live TV on Xbox One.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Volume up\/down adjustments.<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0We\u2019re making it easier to adjust the volume on your Xbox One. Now, you can tailor the number of volume increments when using \u201cXbox volume up\u201d or \u201cXbox volume down\u201d voice commands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">New ways to stay connected with SmartGlass.\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">We\u2019re introducing new ways for you to stay connected with your friends through Xbox One SmartGlass. Receive notifications of Xbox Live messages, check out what your friends are doing, and see their latest highlight clips. You can even unsnap apps with the tap of a finger \u2013 all from your personal device.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Support for new Xbox One accessories.\u00a0<\/strong>Xbox One now supports the recently announced\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.xbox.com\/2014\/02\/xbox-one-headset\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Xbox One Stereo Headset and Adapter<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.xbox.com\/2014\/02\/xbox-one-media-remote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Xbox One Media Remote<\/a>\u00a0with a dedicated OneGuide button, as well as third party headsets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Browser improvements.\u00a0<\/strong>When you\u2019re searching for content, there\u2019s now a direct link to IE to see related results on the web. New gesture and controller features let you directly zoom and pan Bing and Google maps. \u00a0And search is even faster in IE \u2013 just highlight a phrase on a web page and press the menu button to search Bing and learn more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>IR blasting of power and volume to TVs\/AVRs<\/strong>\u00a0is now available in all regions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Easy sound bar setup.<\/strong>\u00a0Your audio sound bar set up just got a lot easier.
